The imposition of kinesiology tape on the neck area

Scalene muscle
Indications: Trigger points, hypertonic scalene muscle

1. In this case, three I-tapes approximately 10-12 cm long, 2.5 cm wide will be required for application.
2. Start application of kinesiologic tape from the site of muscle insertion, at the level of C2-C3 cervical vertebrae.
3. Ask the patient to touch his/her opposite shoulder with the chin and apply the tape with a 15 % tension towards the second rib, according to the anatomy of anterior, medium, and posterior muscular fascicles.

Swellings of the jaw (Panch Taping)
Indications: swelling of mandible and submandibular space

1. This method requires Panch tape 20 cm long.
2. Ask the patient to turn his/her head to the opposite side from the injury for stretching of tissues in the application site.
3. Apply the base of the tape in the region of infraclavicular fossa (region of the lymph nodes), and tape is applied without tension towards the lower jaw, completely covering swelling zone.

Swelling of mandibular region
Indications: swelling of mandible and submandibular space

1. This method requires one lymph tape 18–20 cm long.
2. Cut the tape by 7–8 strips with equal width, the tape base 3–4 cm long is left integer.
3. Apply the base of the lymph-tape in the region of infraclavicular fossa (region of lymph nodes), and lymph-tape strips are applied without tension towards the lower jaw, completely covering swelling zone.

Sternocleidomastoid muscle
Indications: Trigger points, hypertonic sternocleidomastoid muscle

1. This method requires two tapes approximately 20 cm long and 2.5 cm wide.
2. Patient’s neck and head are in the neutral position. Apply the base of the tape on a mastoid process.
3. Ask the patient to bend his/her head to the opposite side and turn his/her head to the side of tape application.
4. In this position, apply the tape without tension towards the sternum.
5. Perform the same procedure with the second tape. Doing so, apply the base of the second tape over the first one, and application itself is displaced a bit laterally (to the side).

Injury of the lower jaw
Indications: Swelling of mandibular, and submandibular area, tooth ache, injury of the lower jaw

1. This method requires two tapes: I-tape of 6-8 cm long and 2.5 cm wide, and also lymph-tape of 12-15 cm long.
2. Apply the base of the I-tape on the chin, then apply the tape body without tension towards temporomandibular joint.
